Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 261. Labyrnthian Finale
[buries face in hands] Yeah, I kind of screwed up here. I actually did another recording of this zone previously. I got all the way to Morokei, killed him, and then it dawned on me.
I forgot the soul gems.
If you're new to the series, we make a point of soul trapping all noteworthy opponents we fight, and that definitely includes dragon priests. Besides their masks, I also want a collection of their souls. And not just Morokei, but I'll take any excuse to soul trap some Thalmor trash as well, so Estormo who awaits us at the end of the dungeon needs to get that special treatment also. That means that we need to prepare for any dungeon delve by bringing the soul gems we need with us, and that's what we forgot to do.
So we have to start off this video by backtracking all the way out of Labyrinthian - three whole zones! - in order to travel back to Breezehome to pick up some empty soul gems. I guess one positive in this is that I noticed a few hanging moss I had missed initially, so that made me feel slightly better.
Once we retrieve the gems we need we then fast travel all the way back, run back through all three zones, and then we can actually start things in earnest. The final zone, Labyrinthian Tribune, is not super long and largely more of the same. It's not long before we find another vision of Savos and friends helpfully telling us "this is it", the boss is in the next room. The warning is not really needed, as nothing happens in Morokei's room until you deliberately disturb one of the enthralled wizards. In any case Morokei - despite wielding an artifact presumably once owned by the god of magic - goes down like a chump, stunlocked by our Impact perk and subsequently soul trapped.
Why bother soul trapping enemies like this, when we already have more than enough filled black and grand soul gems back home? It's largely a roleplaying issue. I can picture my Dragonborn one day in the future after his adventures are over. He is sitting in a comfy chair in Windstad Manor, a glass of Alto wine in one hand while the other holds filled soul gems up to the light, reminiscing over past triumphs and gloating over the foes held within (we are playing an evil character after all).
We proceed on after Morokei until we get to Estormo, who is equally a chump and will also make a fine addition to our collection. Returning to the surface we end the video, but we have one more black soul gem in our inventory. Next time we head back to the College, because it's got Ancano's name on it.
