Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 280. Loud and Clear
At long last we get back to real content and begin working on the Thieves Guild main questline. We technically did the first couple of quests a long time ago in order to get access to the Guild, but they're pretty trivial. Today we get started on some real-deal thieving with Loud and Clear.
We're off to Goldenglow Estate in order to send Aringoth a message for double-crossing the Guild. Now the Estate is heavily guarded by mercenaries both inside and outside, and of course we could silently slit their throats from behind or snipe them with our bow from 100 meters, but that is not the Way of the Thief. True thievery means slipping in and out of a location completely unnoticed while taking everything of value along the way, and that's what we're here to do.
We start by casing the perimeter. Besides a few barrels and some flowers there's not much to be had on the islands the Estate sits on, so we head on to the secret sewer entrance Vex tipped us off to. The sewer just leads to an exit next to a side door into the Estate, which you can actually pretty easily get to without going through the sewer, but oh well.
Inside the Estate our Detect Life spell gives us perfect intel on the location of every mercenary, and Invisibility coupled with stealth means we're never seen. We pull off some feats of stealth that truly strain credulity. Heck, who are we kidding - they completely break any kind of suspension of disbelief. Now I justify a lot of our stealth shenanigans in my head with the belief that as a vampire, when we use stealth we basically become a nearly invisible incorporeal spirit flitting from place to place, as is represented in some vampire lore. How else can we remain undetected only a handful of feet away from enemies? But in this case, even if the mercenaries don't notice us three feet away, you'd think they would still notice the door opening, or someone going through those drawers next to them. But we're not accountable for the game's deficiencies in design, so if it allows it, we're going to do it.
All that said, we clean out the Estate from top to bottom, which includes the Queen Bee Statue in Aringoth's room for the non-journal quest The Litany of Larceny, as well as the Bee in a Jar there as well. We return to Brynjolf for a pat on the back and are sent to Maven Blackbriar herself for our next assignment, Dampened Spirits, which is where we'll pick up next time.
