Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 307. Dark Brotherhood Side Contracts 2
We're back to Dark Brotherhood content today, although our first item of business is a follow-up to completing Lost to the Ages last time. Now that we have the Aetherial Crown, we might as well go ahead and store the Ritual Stone power in it like we discussed. So we make a short trip from Whiterun over to the Ritual Stone, where appropriately a lone necromancer is keeping vigil.
After acquiring the power, we then need to acquire another standing stone to put it into the Crown. At this point there are really only two stones that can really benefit us - the Lady Stone or the Steed Stone. We obviously don't need any of the Warrior, Mage, Thief, or Lover Stones, as all our skills are at 100. The Serpent, Shadow, and Tower Stones are likewise pretty worthless as we can easily replicate their powers with spells or skills. The Lord Stone isn't needed as all our armor already gets us to the armor cap, and we're pretty maxed out on magic resistance, too. Technically I think we're something like 6 points off the cap, but it's not enough worth taking the Stone for. And personally I'm not a fan of either the Atronach or Apprentice Stones as they both have downsides to their bonuses.
That leaves the Lady and Steed Stones. The Lady Stone grants 25% to health and stamina regen. While our armor is doing the heavy lifting in regards to boosting both those stats to deal with our vampiric sunlight weakness, an extra 25% would always be welcome. As for the Steed Stone, we already have the perks that make both light and heavy armor weigh nothing when worn, but an extra 100 units of carry weight would be nice. Ultimately we decide on the Lady Stone, as carrying extra weight is what Serana is for.
Fortunately the Lady Stone is just a stone's throw (pardon the pun) from our first contract target - Hern the vampire. We can see Half-Moon Mill across the water, so we swim over to stalk our target. We only have to kill Hern, not Hert, so we wait until morning to take advantage of their schedules. Hern comes outside at 7 AM, but Hert doesn't until 8. I like Hert and like the idea of another vampire running the mill, so we're going to pick him off separately.
After talking to him he goes down like a chump while working the grindstone. We then enter the house just to make sure Hert hasn't turned hostile either, and she hasn't. Scratch one bogey, and we swing through Solitude to drop off his soul on our way to our next target.
We sneak into Morthal at night to take out Lurbuk the bard. Unfortunately there's a bit of immersion-breaking here for our roleplaying. Lurbuk never leaves the inn (except as part of the quest Laid to Rest, but we're not going to get mixed up with that yet), so we have to kill him there. Unfortunately innkeepers automatically speak to you when you enter an inn even if you're stealthed and they can't actually see you (and of course they're awake 24/7). We're just going to have to live with that and not count it as being seen in our headcanon. Regardless, we sneak into his room, do the deed, and are soon on our way back to Solitude to drop off another soul.
With these two contracts done it's time to head back to the Sanctuary to turn them in and advance the main questline. Astrid is now ready to start The Silence Has Been Broken, and next time we're off to the ruin of Volunruud to meet the mysterious Amaund Motierre.
