Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 425. Exploring the Hjaalmarch Swamp Part 1
1We start today at the place we ended yesterday, just at the end of a bridge on the road running from Dragon Bridge to Morthal. There's a little bit of forest here we need to explore before moving into the swamp proper.
In the forest is a primary location, Meeko's Shack, where we pick up Meeko as a follower for the time being. There's also a secondary location here in the form of a dragon mound, which of course is empty.
It's then time to take on the swamp. While I love the atmosphere of Hjaalmarch's swamp, it's a bit of a nightmare to explore. There are so many tiny islands it's hard to keep track of where we have and haven't been. In addition, the ingredients to be found here are easy to miss. Sure, Deathbell sticks out like a sore thumb, but it's a lot easier to miss a Canis Root or a Swamp Fungal Pod, and Giant Lichens are practically invisible if you don't know what you're looking for.
We adopt our usual divide and conquer approach, starting with the bit of swamp that's attached to the mainland at the forest we just explored. From there we work our way east until we get to Fort Snowhawk. I would have liked to have snuck through the fort silently slitting throats as is our custom, but I forget that my companions aren't quite as stealthy as I am, and the necromancers in the fort catch wind of us. There's nothing to do at that point but rush inside and wreck up the place.
With that done we leave our followers outside to make pacifying the interior easier. There are two interior zones - the fort itself and the prison. Neither is terribly big, but there is a good amount of loot here, and we're getting overloaded by the time we're finished. Still, I don't think it's quite time to head back to Whiterun, so next time we'll resume where we are with more swamp exploration.
