Keybinding both shoot and sheath weapon to your mouse and pressing ( shoot ➤ short delay ➤ shoot + sheath ) allows you to reload way faster, even during combat. The delay is different for both types of crossbows, dwarven is stronger, but has a slightly longer delay.

For me personally, binding shoot to the right mouse button and shealth to the mouse wheel feels the most comfortable during long playing sessions as both fingers can rest next to each other, making it really easy to do.

This is the only trick which keeps me from using the same old stealth archer everybody else ends up using as this allows for faster combat that does not fully rely on stealth kills.
