Skyward Sword Hero Mode - 6 Hearts No Shields: Ancient Cistern
Happy Chinese New Year everyone! Yeah, it's a little late, but I thought this dungeon was particularly appropriate. Well, it's more Japanese influenced than Chinese. But it could go either way, really, I'd go so far as to describe the style of this place as "ambiguously Eastern". But I digress.
This dungeon was kind of a breather compared to the last, you'll notice it was shorter too. The tranquil atmosphere and music help, in contrast to the LMF's theme that can be pretty grating. I digress again. There's only really one main problem area... and that's the miniboss. Arrrgh, I'd go so far as to say Stalmaster is actually harder than this dungeon's "real" boss. Out of 3 failed runs, he ended 2. As you can see, he almost got me this time too, but I was faster. Just.
You're probably wondering what ended the other run? The answer was drowning. Which brings me to my next point, something I didn't realise till now: heart loss from drowning is ALSO doubled in Hero Mode. What that means is you'll be losing 2 hearts per second, and in a 6 heart run... yeah, you never want to let that air guage empty. So USE YOUR SPIN SPARINGLY. I learnt that the hard way.
The other thing I want to mention is Goddess Walls. Now that we have the Harp we'll be able to access them. Now, you'll probably know that if you draw a Triforce, faries will appear, and drawing a heart will spawn hearts. BOTH OF THESE STILL WORK IN HERO MODE. As such, you're able to use Goddess Walls as "recharge points", so to speak. Make good use of them, and you'll have few problems after Stalmaster.
Enemies:
-Stalmaster:
First thing's first, the main reason this guy's so tough: he's the first enemy able to inflict 4 HEARTS of damage. Yikes! And it's a counter that comes out very quickly and likes to catch you off guard. It's best to instinctively leap backwards whenever you hear your attacks go 'ting'. Later on he'll switch guard too fast for you to keep up with, I find the best thing to do is spam the forward thrust and pray.
-Furnix:
If you can flick the whip before they get off any fireballs, you're set. Otherwise, get ready for some quick dodging.
-Cursed Bokoblin:
Couple of hits followed by a Fatal Blow will do it. (And you have to use FB, otherwise they'll just keep getting up.) Just don't let them surround you!
