The internet blew up a few weeks ago when CD Projekt Red announced that they would be removing gender options from Cyberpunk 2077. I decided to wait a while before dropping my own take on why gender doesn't matter in Cyberpunk 2077. While there is some overlap in the arguments I present, there are, nonetheless, some arguments that have yet to be addressed in this latest nontroversy. Those looking for a tl;dr - my caution is that CD Projekt Red are a company, and this decision was a cold and calculated one; as such, we shouldn't see this as anything other than them trying to sidestep a controversy through appeasement measures. That said, there is more at play here than mere appeasement.
