2After Ensign Tennan is critically injured while repairing Challenger’s impulse drive, the crew’s fate hangs in the balance. Can Dr. Voraal’s medical expertise save the young officer’s life? Or will Tennan become the Challenger’s first casualty?
But there’s no time to breathe. As the ship narrowly dodges destruction in the heavy metal asteroid field, sensors flare with strange readings: gradons wash over the vessel, and then space itself shatters open. From the fracture emerges a colossal, bone-like tube, releasing a swarm of living organisms that engulf the Challenger and begin draining its shields.
Now, Commodore Xen must call on the full strength of her bridge crew to uncover the mystery of this terrifying construct. What is the Bryozoan Conveyor, and how can the Challenger possibly survive first contact with it?
