Snake Force Review: Refreshing Twist to the 'Top-Down' Genre
Heya! Be sure to like, comment and subscribe it really helps the channel improve as I slowly refine my video style!
Snake Force is a top-down shooting game, where you run around saving hostages who join your team and shoot alongside you. However, this game holds a big twist, as all your recruits shoot in the same direction, and friendly fire is turned on.
While this free to play experience is branded as a shooter, I would argue this game is more of a puzzle, encouraging the decomposition of situations instead of being trigger happy.
The premise of the game is simple - you have to run through levels while shooting enemies and collecting a group of soldiers, but if you shoot in a straight line everyone will shoot each other in the back of the head. This forces the player to be tactical with who they shoot and which hostages they collect.
The game definitely takes inspiration from games like Snake and Slither.io - with the length of your battalian often becoming the source of your problems.
However, one major flaw to the game is that you can run around without any fellow soldiers, which makes traversing the battlefield easier and increases your chances of staying alive- defeating the purpose of the game.
This idea is even encouraged, as once the game is finished there are bonus levels where you can ONLY complete the map with one person.
Snake Force is quite a short game, only taking about 45 minutes to complete across 6 levels, which is understandable as it was created in 48 hours.
It is a fun experience - even though it suffers some fatal flaws in terms of design and mechanics.
I would rate it a 6/10, and it is free to play on steam.
Thank you!
