SnapMaw - Explained (Horizon Forbidden West / Zero Dawn Lore)
Horizon Forbidden West / Zero Dawn Lore Explained
The Snapmaw is a medium-sized, amphibious, Acquisition Class machine.
They were designed by Zero Dawn’s governing AI, GAIA and manufactured by its subordinate function responsible for machine manufacture.
They were originally made to work under POSEIDON, the function responsible for detoxifying Earth’s poisoned rivers, lakes and seas, which had been rendered inhospitable to all marine-life after the Faro Plague destroyed the Earth’s biosphere, exterminating all life on the planet.
In appearance, the Snap maw resembles an enormous crocodile, with a long, crocodilian snout, a stocky reptilian-like body, four legs, and a long, powerful tail.
There are two optical sensor arrays in the same location a crocodile's eyes would sit, And rows of Solar panels, resource containers, and armour-plates line its back like a Crocodiles scutes.
Despite it’s intended purpose as a water purifying machine; To dissuade hunters from attacking them for their resources, Snapmaws were made weaponised and hostile to humans, the phenomenon known as the Derangement.
They posess huge chainsaw-blades lining their jaws, as well as the ability to spit Chillwater at enemies, causing freeze damage.
They are weak to fire-damage, and a Blaze canister sits atop each shoulder, which will explode if hit with a fire-arrow.
Directed hits on its Freeze Sac from high-powered Arrows will trigger an explosion that freezes the machine and disables it's ranged attacks.
So what did you think of the Snapmaws? I thought they were really intimidating the first time I came across them, and all the while I was still at a lower level.
And I remember when you have to hack that Tallneck that walks around in that round body of water. I remember hiding from Snapmaws in the bushes, and a few times they walked past really closely, and it was really intense.
