To think that this year would mark 20 years since this game first came out...

So it turns out that this game has stringent requirements in order to not only fight specific opponents (including the secret final boss who, depending on certain conditions, is either Athena from the 1986 platformer game of the same name or Red Arremer, AKA Firebrand, from the 'Ghosts 'n Goblins' series), but also to witness character-specific endings instead of the standard text crawl that appears whenever the player either defeats Shin Akuma/Serious Mr. Karate as the final boss or loses to Athena/Red Arremer, since the player has only one chance to defeat either of the secret final bosses (hence the reason why I decided to take some liberties in this particular arcade run, including the ability to select secret characters by holding the R1 button and pressing one of the face buttons on certain base character slots).
