So how does PRIORITY work? And why do you even need to know how it works?
Priority is the term for when your allowed to do things on any given turn. By default the turn player has priority, and it basses back and forth depending on a few factors. And for the most part you dont have to know the exact details of this, except for a few instances. If you have a card with a quick effect that activates in the MP1, and you want to do it on your opponents turn, you have to wait for your opponent to do something first before an open game state occurs and you can do your things. This includes your opponent activate a card or effect, summoning a monster, setting a card, declaring an attack, or changing a battle position, or trying to enter a different phase. Only then could you use the effect of something like Spright Elf to summon a monster from the GY, or I:P Masquerena to link summon. Which gives your opponent a chance to kaiju your quick effects before they pop off, or to play a card from hand before you hand rip them with PSY-Framelord Omega. Basically if a monster has a quick effect that states it can only be used during the main phase, it was done on purpose to restrict the card in a very minor way, ie, just allowing your opponent a chance to do something before all hands are on deck, and your free to go crazy chaining as many quick effects as you want after.
