So I asked people why they are quitting ESO
5,754A few weeks ago, some significant ESO combat changes were announced for the upcoming update: Lost Depths. These proposed changes sent the Elder Scrolls Online community into a frenzy. Many players widely and vehemently opposed the direction that the game was taking, while many others passionately argued against anyone who criticized these changes (see: "toxic positivity"). The initial Update 35 changes exposed not only some of the arguable weaknesses of ESO's development process but also the weaknesses within the community, as many different groups of players with different beliefs concerning the game butted heads across all forms of social media.
Although there have since been many revisions to the proposed combat changes in light of all of the feedback and backlash from the community, an extensive amount of damage has already been dealt to the game's player base. For many, this occurrence has completely severed their trust in the game's development. A substantial amount of players are dissatisfied with the direction and state of ESO and are subsequently choosing to take a break from the game; some, for good.
When the U35 combat changes dropped, my community largely fell into the camp of players that were greatly alarmed and disappointed by the direction of the game. As a result, many have since decided to take a break from ESO. As disheartening as it has been to observe many of my community regulars choose to put the game down for a spell, I'm determined to try to continue to foster a space that encourages fun and engaging ESO gameplay.
Although this patch may be unfavorable for many, I believe that a strong community can be reason enough for players to want to stick around. In this video, I pick the brains of some of my community members in regards to why they are considering quitting or actually quitting ESO and what we as players can do to potentially reignite their interest in the game and keep our communities happy and healthy.
