26The game illustrates a national football tournament called the Konami World Champions Cup; twelve teams participate, and at the beginning of the game the player must choose which of these national teams to lead to the tournament victory: the game in fact includes 11 matches, as it is necessary to defeat all the other teams; however, if a player loses a match and continues with a new credit, the teams previously defeated by the player will no longer be available because they are excluded from the tournament. Each team boasts different qualities of attack, defense, race and goalkeeper, illustrated at the time of the team's choice, and each team also presents different qualities in the players on the field, not directly highlighted but attributable to the field and often the most skilled players are aesthetically similar to real champions of the time, and generally boast a more powerful shot and a greater ability to avoid opponent tackles.
The field of view is from the back of the players of your team, with a 3-D technology that allows you to rotate the view when the ball is played on the flanks.
If you control the ball with one of your players with the button A if you are very far from the opponent's goal you make a long and inaccurate throw, while if you are near the penalty area of the rivals you shoot at the goal: pulling with the directional control turned in the opposite direction to the attack one pulls the ball high under the crossbar; with button B a slow and low level passage is made towards the partner indicated by a special cursor with the word "PASS"; with the button C a high and precise lob pass is made, very useful for crossing from the baseline, as well as usable for sombrero dribbling. If you receive a high ball depending on the height of the ball you must use a different button to hit it: in fact if the ball is low with button A you make a half backward shot, if the ball is at medium height with the button C is hit from the head from a standing position, while if the ball is high with button B it is hit with a header in elevation; with a ball at half height you can also decide to stop it from the chest, and based on the direction impressed with the appropriate control the player directs the stop. If you are not controlling the ball with button A you tackle it in a slip, with button B you load your opponent with a shoulder in jump, while with button C you force your goalkeeper to exit the posts; using the shoulder, you risk committing a foul on the opponent and being warned by the referee.
With the exception of the exit from the posts or the postponements, the goalkeeper of his team is automatic.
Each match lasts an actual minute, however sufficient time as the pace of the matches is very high
