Sol-Feace (Machine type: SEGA CD)
Sol-Feace is a classic horizontal scrolling shoot-‘em-up video game that was originally released for the Sega CD and other platforms.
Story
The game is set in the 33rd century, where humanity has colonized space. However, an AI called GCS-WT has gone rogue and started controlling the entire galaxy, subjugating humanity. The player controls the titular starship Sol-Feace, which is humanity’s last hope to destroy the rogue AI and its defenses.
Gameplay
Sol-Feace features classic side-scrolling shoot-’em-up gameplay where the player pilots the Sol-Feace ship through various levels, each filled with enemy ships, obstacles, and bosses. The ship can fire in different directions, and players can upgrade their weapons by collecting power-ups. The game requires quick reflexes and strategic movement to survive the barrage of enemies and projectiles.
Sega CD Version
The Sega CD version of Sol-Feace is particularly notable because it was one of the early titles released for the platform. The game leveraged the Sega CD’s capabilities by including a fully voiced introduction and cutscenes, as well as an enhanced soundtrack compared to its cartridge-based counterpart on the Sega Genesis.
Reception
Sol-Feace was generally well-received for its challenging gameplay and impressive visuals for the time. However, it was also noted that it did not significantly innovate within the genre. The Sega CD version, with its improved audio and cinematic presentation, was appreciated by fans of the genre.
The game is considered a cult classic among fans of retro shoot-’em-ups and is part of the broader legacy of the early 1990s Sega CD library.

Games-X SEGA CD - 80%
Sol-Feace is a competent shoot 'em-up for the Mega-CD, and does actually utilize the machine's scrolling and scaling facilities a little. The intro to the game is cool; cartoon-style graphics accompanied by a few words of fluent Japanese. On the whole, a decent shoot 'em-up.
