Solaris - Atari 2600 (1986)
1I just posted Radar Lock, a 1989 2600 game that borrowed a lot from the design and engine of this. Yet, it's a totally different game despite the visual similarities. I can see why things were borrowed, too. There's a lot of wizardry in this cartridge that you don't just whip up randomly. This took a lot of work and I'm amazed by how dense this game is. I just popped it in to try and get a feel for it, and despite the controls needing adjustment, it's pretty gripping. There's so much in this game. Rescue missions, base defense, shoot em up stages, that expansive map...it's kind of incredible. I didn't even figure out what the keys were or how to refuel, so there's so much more to this game than what I've seen. You just don't say that about 2600 games.
