Yes its possible to virtualize Solaris10 x86 on the ARM64 Macs using qemu-system-x86_64 - and the performance is not bad at all
- I have used virtioblk driver to get the qcow2 disk recognized by the Solaris installer and to speed up the disk I/O during the emulation.
- Some quick specs - bootstrapping pkgsrc on the Solaris 10 host using gcc5 takes approx 25 minutes (https://docs.huihoo.com/netbsd/pkgsrc/platforms.html#solaris) and yes it involves quite some compilation/build task
In this demo we are running prboom (Doom) + ScummVM (King's Quest 6) and browsing the net using Firefox
Remember that there is no KVM involved here since we are emulating a totally different platform here - x86_64 on AMR64
