Solo SBBK-10 (Part 2) Fixing Uneven Frets
So I built this kit bass about a year ago. Had several problems with the kit and had considered giving up on it several times.
- Very quiet pickups, even when 60W amp was cranked it was 50% quieter than my other basses. Replaced the pickups with Ibanez PFR5-II pickups.
- The Overlord bass bridge was a hunk of scrap. The base level action on the saddles was higher than I'd normally set anything. Replaced with Guyker single string saddle/tuners.
- Several uneven frets. I already fixed the 15th fret which was so high I'd end up with a dead buzzy note if I played it.
In this video I am fixing the 13th and 14th fret which was also uneven. So far the other frets seem fine. I had never attempted leveling frets before but since this bass was built by me and didn't really feel like I had anything to lose I gave it a shot. I did it so if need be more can always be removed, but I think it turned out okay. I may get to recording something with it eventually.
