872Nintendo fans everywhere are buzzing about Mario’s upcoming 40th Anniversary and the rumors of a massive September Nintendo Direct 2025. With the Switch 2 fresh on the market, there’s no way Nintendo lets this milestone pass quietly. In this video, I break down everything Nintendo could announce to celebrate 40 years of Mario, from realistic predictions to wild fan wishlist ideas.
We look back at what Nintendo did for Mario’s past anniversaries — from the Super Mario All-Stars Wii release in 2010, to Super Mario Maker on Wii U in 2015, and the huge Super Mario 35th Anniversary in 2020 with 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 35, and the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch. Following that pattern, Mario’s 40th could be the biggest celebration yet.
The most likely announcements? A return of Super Mario 35 as Super Mario 40, a New Super Mario Bros. Collection with DS, Wii, and 3DS titles, or even a 3D All-Stars 2 including Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D Land. We could also see Super Mario Bros. Wonder DLC, a brand-new Mario-themed collectible system, or even limited-edition Switch 2 hardware.
But what about the dream predictions? Fans are hoping for Super Mario Odyssey 2, a Super Mario RPG remake or sequel, a complete Mario Legacy Collection with every major game, or even a surprise like Super Mario Maker 3.
