Inspired by the early '80s J-pop song "Morning Glory" by Tatsuro Yamashita. The song is super catchy, and I noticed that Sonic 3's file select theme used a similar chord progression.
It's quite possible that Koji Kondo also took inspiration from that song when composing the "Great Fairy Fountain" theme from Zelda.
