Launch Base Act 1 has the first elevator take Tails on an alternate route. It's a shorter trip compared to the route Sonic and Knuckles have to take. They'll have to go the long way around if they want that Special Stage ring.

I did some backtracking just to get more rings and increase my score to get more lives. When I do these playthroughs, I tend to make sure I have at least 99 lives before I beat the game.
