Sonic Blast (GCN) (Blind) 100% Walkthrough/Let's Play (4K60) (3): The Last Aspect
That is, the last Sonic game developed by the video game developer Aspect Co. Ltd.
Anyway, in this part, I play Sonic Blast as Knuckles the Echidna.
While I shouldn't have expected too much from this (video) game, being a Game Gear, there were several aspect that I rather like about this game. For one thing (comparing it to the previous title (not Tails Adventure) of Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble), the game actually felt like that it had a real difficult curve in it: It starts off rather easy and becomes harder, with more obstacles to maneuver around and movr difficult enemies to deal with in the later stages. Even the Special Stages got more difficult as the player progressed through the Zones. The best part about it is that it never felt cheap and unfair in the overall spectrum. The controls and platforming felt rather solid, and it really looked like that they trying to take as much advantage of the 8-bit hardware as much as possible with the graphics, but having the trade-off such things of most animations not being very smooth and the game slowing down when in water (although that could've been a intended effect considering that the game would only be slowing down when in water. The game also rather short, having actually one less whole zone than Triple Trouble. But considering the 8-bit handheld gaming console limitations , it's amazing that they were able to do quite a bit. While its pre-rendered visuals on 16-bit games like Donkey Kong Country may look a bit better, this still looks good on its own to a great extent. The screen does feel rather close, but since the Zones are fairly easy to follow, it didn't feel like I was getting lost. Interestingly, it felt as though the last two Zones were really opening up. The bosses also reflected the difficulty fairly well, with a lot of the boss fights requiring the player to attack at certain intervals and/or paying attention to what was going on. And lastly, the soundtrack was also rather neat, with the second and third Zones being my personal favorites.
In conclusion felt something felt like a (standalone) sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (for which that game was actually a sequel to Sonic Chaos), and it was rather neat overall. An overall 8.0 out of 10 by me.
