Sonic CD's analogue to Sonic 1's Star Light: Stardust Speedway, the fastest, competitive, most blood-boiling zone in the whole game, and arguably the best one because of this.

--------------

In each time period, there's a different building near the end of Act 2.

In the Present, the zone already looks futuristic, as the tracks a paved with brass and brass trumpets, amongst spotlights and a MASSIVE, shining city in the background. Act 2 has a enormous Eggman statue still in construction.

The Past has all the zone's tech dialed back a lot, as it's now replaced with viney architecture and Greek-like buildings. In the background, Act 2 contains some kind of Gothic castle, or at least with a closer look, a very nice painting of a Gothic castle.

The Good Future is more of an amusement park version of the Present, and a castle that's different from the one in the Past.

The Bad Future is perhaps the best example of such a future in this game. The cities are dark, the air's polluted, and there are constant lightning storms in the sky caused by blood red clouds. Also, the Eggman statue that was shown in the Present is now completely finished here.

--------------

Another reason this zone is very popular in Sonic CD is because of its Act 3 boss. Instead of fighting Eggman, he chases you with a powerful ring-ignoring death beam. You have to outrun it while racing against Metal Sonic towards a gate that contains Amy.

If Sonic lost, he would have ended up outside the gate, allowing Eggman's beam to kill him off, regardless of rings. If Sonic wins, and he does here, Metal Sonic ends up crashing into the closing gate, dying in the exact same way Sonic would in most of his classic games.

Very funny. From this, there will be no more Metal Sonic holograms for the rest of this playthrough.

No matter which Future this race takes place on, it will always play the Bad Future theme when it starts. I think this is only in the Japanese version, though.

After the race, you complete Act 3 by freeing Amy from a structure and allowing her to lovingly glomp Sonic. She hopes that she and Sonic will be able to leave Little Planet once Sonic's defeats Eggman himself.

--------------

Very specifically, the Bad Future version of the Sonic vs. Metal Sonic race is featured in Sonic Generations. While it's not a full stage like the treatment Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles got, Sega knew that they still had to reference this game somehow.

Still, to that, I say congratulations!
