This is currently (and probably for many years) the best way to play Sonic CD.

Sonic CD was always the oddball of the classic series for me.
The original version was fun, but I never liked it as much as 1, 2, 3&K.
The 2011 remake made things better by adding the spin dash, improved physics, playable Tails, time attack, double OST and many other things I am forgetting.
But after playing it (a lot, admittily), I started noticing the remake wasn't completely faithful.
Some time travel spots worked better in the original game and vice versa, the different physics actually made Sonic acting differently from expectations in a few areas in general.
Today Sonic CD is available through the Sonic Origins collection, but that version, while being based on the 2011 remake, sports a new different breed of glitches and bugs, courtesy of sega incompetence.
This Restored & Knuckles version is based off the 2011 remake as well, making it more faithful to the original game and by adding also extra content, like playable Amy and Knuckles. I can't stress enough how I was let down by Knuckles absence in the version includes in Origins.
There is a frankly astonishing amount of options, allowing to deeply customize the game, you can even choose the soundtrack for each zone. I immediately tried the drop dash, a feature made popular by Sonic Mania, and badly implemented by sega in Origins.
It works wonderfully here.

With all the efforts and subtle yet effective changes, Sonic CD with this Restored & Knuckles mod feels for me finally on par with 1, 2, 3&K. I may even prefer it to 1.
It is highly replayable and highly customizable, with 2 banger OSTs and its unique aesthetics, and the gameplay was refined so much it's unreal.
Thumbs up for all the fans that worked and made possible to play this!
