Sonic The Fighters (Arcade) - Playthrough
0Here's a game I bet most people forgot about. Released in 1996; Sonic the Fighters was an effort to make a Sonic fighting game, something that felt a little weird at first; but honestly, it's a fun shift in perspective. Sonic the Fighters was built entirely on the Fighting Vipers engine; and even at one point had a character called Honey the Cat, who was inspired by a character from Fighting Vipers named Honey. Though Honey was cut, she alongside Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic would be made playable in the 2012 re-release.
Sadly, if Sonic the Fighters has one major problem; it's that the game's AI and opponents in the single player are rather imbalanced, here's a basic rundown of each: Knuckles is super easy, Amy just blocks constantly, once all her shields are broken she is easy like Knuckles; Bark hits hard, but also leaves himself wide open often. Espio is the first opponent that feels like an active threat due to his more unorthodox attack style. Tails is fairly easy, until he busts out his grab which has priority over all your moves, and shaves off like half your health. Fang is 'throw me to win,' Bean is chaotic and hard to anticipate; so often you have to take some high risks. And Sonic is like Espio, more well rounded, but a tougher fight.
And then there's Metal Sonic. F*CK Metal Sonic in this game. He is stupidly overpowered, with 3 super moves that all shave off a ton of life; and Tails' OP grab attack as well. If you get hit with his Chest Laser, Emerald Spin, or Impale jab; you've basically lost the fight for the most part; because they all deal insane damage, and can sometimes hit you multiple times. If you can get to Metal Sonic, as normal Sonic; without being KO'd once, and KO Metal Sonic Round 1, you can activate Hyper Mode to turn into Super Sonic; but I've never managed to get that far without losing at least once... If you manage to take Metal Sonic out; Robotnik is relatively easy in comparison, since you get infinite hyper mode; just don't get hit by his spinning lariat attack, or you'll regret it.
