Challenge: Go as far as possible in Sonic 2 without collecting any rings or shields.

Notes: As far as I can tell, it is impossible to go past Chemical Plant 1 legitimately, although I would love for someone to prove me wrong. The only thing I can think of is to try to get over the upper path's loop, but that seems impossible unless I'm not trying hard enough.
