Sega's world famous blue blur Sonic, one of the most famous video game characters in existence, has enjoyed a resurgence outside of video games in recent years, with both a successful comic book relaunch and a well received feature film under his belt. And in 2022, the Spiny Speedster is about to make his way to Netflix as well, with his new show “Sonic Prime” premiering in 2022. However, the title raises interesting questions about the Sonic Universe… or rather, its multiverse.
With Sonic having enjoyed a vast number of different adaptations during his decades long career, be it various comic book continuities, several game timelines, a number of TV shows and some movies, the title “Sonic Prime” seems to imply that this time, the show may decide to focus on giving several of these various incarnations of the blue blur. It seems especially plausible with the live-action movie starring Ben Schwartz already having introduced the multiverse concept as well. Wouldn't it be great to see members of the Sonic franchises massive cast of characters that have not yet made it to the small or big screens finally make an appearance? Or to see the many different worlds Sonic has visited appear on screen? Or even revisit some of the older, stranger ideas that didn't quite pan out back when first introduced?
There are tons of challenges to face and adventures to be had in a Sonic Multiverse. And we here at Screen Rant think this show will be a perfect opportunity to explore them.
