Sonic Unleashed (360) playthrough – Part 6: Purple and Silver Chaos Emeralds restored, ending
Part 6 of my first playthrough series of Sonic Unleashed on Xbox 360. This video contains where Part 5 ended up until the game is beaten by defeating the final boss. The purple and silver chaos emeralds are revitalized in different parts of the video and the credits of the game are shown. No audio commentary. Full and uncut to give a feeling of a live experience. The videos in this series are like a longplay, but not in one single video. The series is done in separate parts because a single video would be too long/large for me, and YouTube limits the features of videos after a certain length.
As a reference, I recorded this video at 1080p 30fps at the highest quality setting my Elgato Game Capture HD hardware could supply. The Xbox 360 version of Sonic Unleashed functions natively at 30 frames per second, which is why I didn’t choose to record at 60 frames per second.
Thanks to my friend Groudon199 for letting me borrow his Xbox 360 and some games; because of that, I was able to play the HD version of Sonic Unleashed. While this is my first time playing this version of Sonic Unleashed, I have played and beaten Sonic Unleashed on the Nintendo Wii before. My focus here was to play through the entire game and beat it while exploring as much of the game as possible. I take my time and try to collect all of the game’s collectibles, see how the game functions, complete all stages/missions, get S Ranks, etc. I’ve written the timestamps for important parts of the video down (start of stages/missions/etc.) which you can use as a viewing guide, although you will miss a lot of interesting content by solely using the timestamps to navigate through the video. The timestamps start at the final successful completion attempt of each objective in question.
My thoughts about Sonic Unleashed through Part 6 (the end of the game): this game was good! I feel that it was definitely better than Sonic Unleashed for the Nintendo Wii, now that I’ve played a lot of it. I enjoyed a lot this game had to offer, even though the game had a lot of control issues and frame rate problems. This was the first console Sonic the Hedgehog game to have the boosting technique and game design associated with it, but even in its first version, this design wasn’t too bad. However, this game design needed many things fixed, which successor games would do. I got angry at the game design in multiple places throughout my playthrough, but I didn’t feel like any of the parts that made me angry were too terrible or poor enough to make me not want to play more.
Exploring the game to collect sun and moon medals was really fun, and this helped unlock stages faster as well. I didn’t have to explicitly spend any time in the game searching for those medals to unlock what I needed to play to continue on. I believe that the camera angle problems and many other troubling aspects of Sonic Unleashed didn’t supersede its positive things.
The game had great graphics, but they definitely caused problems for the hardware of this video game console generation. The slowing/pausing of the gameplay was very apparent. The Day stages were good, but the Night stages were more interesting to me because the gameplay involved was fun and offered combat that unique to the 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games. With a bunch of slight improvements to the Night stages, I could see them being much more fun to play and less irritating to a lot of players who really didn’t like them. The story itself was fine, even though the character presentations and events were a little bland to me. I felt the ways the characters were depicted weren’t as strong as the past Sonic games. It would be awesome to see this game made to run smoothly at all times via a new version of some sort! I’ll probably create more videos of this playthrough, which will contain me playing the content that I didn’t beat or complete, such as getting all items. Stay tuned for that!
