Dolby Atmos DTS:X IMAX Enhanced Auro-3D Dolby Vision IQ

Today, Sonos is adding support for Amazon Music Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos for a handful of its speakers. 2021 seems to be the year lossless and high-resolution music goes mainstream. Closing out 2021, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Tidal, Qobuz, and Deezer all now support high-resolution music in some way, shape, or form.
Amazon Music specifically goes all in and supports hi-res lossless (Ultra HD) audio up to 24-bits at 192 kHz. The service also supports spatial audio via the Dolby Atmos codec. Amazon has tens of thousands of tracks in Ultra HD quality and a few thousand tracks mastered in Dolby Atmos. In addition, Amazon has 75 million tracks in the standard CD (HD) quality.
Sonos owners will be able to play Amazon Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos content through select speakers and soundbars starting today. For Atmos, users will need a Sonos Arc or second-generation Beam soundbar. Users can play ultra HD tracks on the Sonos Amp, Arc, Beam, Connect (2nd generation), Connect: Amp (second generation), Five and Play:5 (second generation), Move, One, One SL, Port, Roam, Sub, Symfonisk Bookshelf and Symfonisk Table Lamp devices. To unlock the functionality, users will need to update their Sonos devices to the latest firmware update. From there, users will need to sign into an Amazon Music Unlimited account, if not already. Then, when an Ultra HD or Dolby Atmos track is played, the now playing card will show the indicator.
It's worth noting that Ultra HD content will be limited to 24-bit, 48 kHz when played through Sonos. This is a hardware limitation as audiophile music streaming service Qobuz launched support for lossless and hi-res lossless on Sonos earlier this year with a similar limitation. However, most listeners won't notice the difference. Surround sound music is cool if mastered correctly. But surround sound music is in its early days and is primarily a gimmick for now.
