122So Sora came out on Steam recently.
I quite liked the game back when it first came out so I decided to try improving my score on the previous video. I managed to do it by quite a huge amount.
One of the defining features of the Suguri series is the ability to dash. You can dash through beam-based attacks like bullets and lasers but you can't dash through solid objects like missiles and bombs, as well as explosions and fire. Dashing increases your heat and the higher your heat the more damage you take when you get hit. So you have to be quite careful with the dash.
You can also cancel any attack animation by dashing. You can do quite a bit more damage by continuously cancelling your animations. This works best when pressed up against a wall.
Dashing through bullets also increases your hyper meters. Hypers are pretty much bombs and you can stock a maximum of three. If you have any health in the red than dashing through bullets also heals you a bit.
The scoring system is chaining and the chain is based on damage.
Because the system is damage-based I want to use my bazooka as much as possible, especially for popcorn, since it does the most amount of damage. However you can also squeeze out some extra score by using weaker weapons first and then finishing the enemy off with a bazooka shot.
Say an enemy has 250 health, you shoot it twice with the rifle for 240 damage and then you finish it off with a bazooka shot for 250 damage. This way you get a 490 chain off the enemy instead of just a 250 chain, which is almost double the value.
I dropped the chain a few times but luckily it was always near the end of the stage so I only lost about 11k from it.
