"Welcome back to the stage of history!"

If you're/were a Dreamcast owner and that quote doesn't immediately send a shiver of nostalgia down your spine then something is very wrong...

So, here we go, more of the Dreamcast footage I collated whilst making my 'Sega Model 3 and the Dreamcast - WTF went wrong video?!?' https://youtu.be/jdfIdHlAh_I in it's entire and unedited form. The game in question this time: Soulcalibur (ソウルキャリバー シリーズ, Sōrukyaribā shirīzu), undoubtedly one of the greatest and best looking Dreamcast games of all time.

Whilst obtaining the footage, similarly to the Model 3 arcade footage I captured of Virtua Fighter 3, my plan was to just play a game and get some footage and then stop if I lost 2 rounds and needed to continue. How long will I last for...?

The game capture is from my actual Dreamcast and copy of the game, using my cheap and nasty RGB capture device (using the DC's SCART cable) that always gives the footage a bit of a fuzzy low quality look. I didn't have the right VMU plugged in when I started the game (i.e. the one with all the characters unlocked from back in the day when I played this LOTS), but I didn't care because I wanted to use Killck who's available from the outset, so the game is treating this as if this the first time I've played it with everything on the default settings.

In the old days, I used to be pretty decent with Kilick and I thought I could remember how to do a lot of his specific special moves before I started playing. However, I quickly realised the commands I thought did a certain thing didn't do the actual thing I wanted, so this pretty much turned into another button mash bonanza.

Soulcalibur truly was one of the most amazing looking games on the Dreamcast. Considering it's now almost 20 years old, it still looks graphically impressive and unlike so many other early 3D games of the time it hasn't aged badly at all. It was also a bit of an oddity, being a Namco game that came out on a Sega console, considering that all the Tekken games, Namco's other flagship fighting game series, were synonymous with the PlayStation brand and indeed Soul Edge, Soulcalibur's predecessor, was a PS1 exclusive (which also happened to have one of the greatest FMV intros ever for a game of that time. Look it up. It's fucking ace!)

Fortunately, the game played every bit as good as it looked, with a memorable roster of characters, with S&M weirdo Voldo always sticking in the memory, along with undead pirate Cervantes (Arrrr!) and demonically possessed Knight Nightmare.

Did you know: a sword that look remarkably like Soul Edge appears as an enemy character in Namco's awesomely fun Piratey themed on-rails shooter Deadstorm Pirates https://youtu.be/XZ5tMwtl28I?t=1066 I always thought Namco missed a trick by not having an appearance by Cervantes in that game,
