"Sound it Out" is a video project I started for my own amusement. In each video, I look at a piece of visual art and make a tune on the violin on the spot to describe it. This one, Voyage by Laurie Devault, is a birthday request from my dear friend and wonderful pianist, Ines Irawati. She asked me to do something whimsical, and/or something that is her personality.
It is a challenge for me because there are so many wonderful things I think of her. She is passionate, strong, honest, she is someone you can always count on to have a great time with, a shoulder to cry on, and her music-making, is magical.
I found this painting by Laurie Devault I thought describes her so well, there's passion, exuberance, so many colors and details that the more you look at, the more you appreciate. I think I started out playing the painting, and I ended the clip playing how I feel about her, instead of her request of "her personality." So... uh, sorry I kinda ruined it, haha.. 😅 But... happy birthday?
