Space Engineers: Hover Conversions
You don't have to have a DeLorean to get in on this hover action. Just get a copy of Takeshi's "HoverEngine" mod off the workshop and you too can enjoy smooth landings (and mostly smooth take-offs) without the need for clunky wheels or fixed landing gear! Get your hover conversion kit TODAY and be sure to tell them Doc Brown sent you!
Boy does this scratch an itch I didn't even know I had. Why even bother with wheels when you can make yourself a proper hovercraft! After seeing this mod come out -- this footage was recorded on the day the mod was released -- I decided to see what would happen if I refit some of my fighter designs -- few of which are designed to actually land, let alone have the wheels or gears to do so -- and see what would happen, especially when used with the Plane Parts mod.
The results are right where I wanted to see them -- though it takes a bit of pulling back on the mouse for me to get most of my craft off the ground, it's doable and makes for some very nice landings. The only caveat is that you'll want to be able to turn off the hover engines once you are off the ground to save power, and that you'll want to spread them out evenly across the body of your craft to help the bits that stick out navigate terrain changes better.
Do keep in mind if you are building a hover vehicle or converting an existing one, it is HIGHLY recommended that you have a gyro and directional thrusters (left, right, forward, back) installed PRIOR to providing the vehicle power... otherwise you'll be chasing it until it slows down on a hill or plows into one.
Awesome work by Takeshi on this mod - this very much ranks right up there with "Plane Parts" for mods that really need to be brought into the game proper and is 2nd on my list of must-have mods to "Plane Parts".
