Space Fever is a 1979 arcade game developed by Nintendo, marking the year when the company began intensifying its focus on gaming production.
The gameplay of Space Fever strongly resembles Taito's milestone game Space Invaders. Players control a laser cannon positioned at the bottom of the screen and must shoot down waves of alien invaders. These aliens are arranged in rows and move horizontally across the screen, gradually descending towards the player. As players eliminate aliens, the remaining enemies move faster, increasing the game's difficulty.
You can get a game over in two ways:
When you run out of lives.
When enemies reach the bottom of the screen and overlap with the player’s base, resulting in a game over.
Like Taito's game, Space Fever features the occasional appearance of a UFO near the top of the screen, which rewards players with bonus points when shot down. Plus, the game includes three distinct modes that alter the movement patterns of the aliens:
Game A: Features two formations of aliens moving in opposite directions.
Game B: New rows of aliens are added when the existing enemies touch either side of the screen, ramping up the challenge as the game progresses.
Game C: Presents the same gameplay mechanics as Space Invaders.
