Go hands-on with this brutal, strategic experience with a Steam demo in August, or in-person at Indie Arena Booth at gamescom, from Wed, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025.
Assembling the biggest, baddest Mercenary Company in the outer rim will require hiring the biggest, baddest mercenaries. Engage in turn-based combat with a squad of soldiers of fortune, each with a different speciality. Sometimes the job needs a big man with an even bigger axe to make a bloody mess, but a merc that can hijack enemy turrets can also fit the bill. Just don’t get too attached – permadeath means a dead mercenary stays dead forever.
Use the spoils of war, rewards, and experience earned from successful missions to buy new weapons, ship upgrades, and hire new talent to replace the fallen. Find new specialists in different combat styles: sharpshooters with a deadly aim, hackers for more complex defenses, or shield-bearing heavies that can tank damage and set the crew up for success during battle.
No two Space Scum experiences will tell the same story, with the ability to choose a custom origins for the Mercenary Company, and procedurally generated planets presenting unexpected surprises. Work for and against different factions, making and breaking alliances as necessary in a quest for power… and expect others to do the same.
Space Scum’s first demo launches on Steam for PC in Aug. 2025, and will be playable at Indie Arena Booth as part of gamescom 2025 in Cologne, Germany.
