Special Weapons | Phobos Labs | No Failure Run
It only took me several years, but I've finally played SpecWeaps without trying to change up the enemy roster too much this time around. That's right, we're going back to the classic demonoid hostiles with all the balefire goodness. My playlist description hootenanny can finally be accurate for once. Not to say that it's easier, obviously, we're still after all playing Special Weapons. Zombies particularly still have their custom behavior where they'll equip random guns from SW's arsenal, which means I'll still have to exercise extreme caution when caught out in the open against gunmen.
Y'know why I've been skipping on NFRs the past few weeks? Well, aside from the obvious thing of the PC monitor being busted resulting in recordings coming out at 768p instead (family got a new one, no worries), there's also the thing of me trying to one shot this map with Sneaky Doom and constantly failing. My insistence of running everything on UV definitely got me kicked in the shins a lot of times, trying to sneak by without much room for sneaky ol' me to snoop around. Just couldn't go through it without complications, no matter what approach I used. Hence why SpecWeaps filled in the void for today's tactical shenanigans.
The map itself is pretty spiffy. I quite like what Guardsoul's done to the place. Still got that Doom aesthetics while amping up all the detail and architecture several folds. Also appreciate not trying to sandblast the map with things like mandatory secrets and whatnot like some "remake" mapsets I won't name. Really good atmosphere, too. Lotta attention to ambience was done here. Quite intrigued to see how the other maps'll play with this (or maybe Sneaky Doom) as well.
