The ToughShell from Speck is a follow-up to the company's other recent rugged case, the ToughSkin. The TouchShell has a some pretty interesting design concepts for the growing multi-layered rugged category.
Like rugged cases from Otterbox, Griffin, and others, the iPhone is placed into a hard plastic shell and then wrapped with a rubber skin. Typical designs involve a whole skin, however, the ToughShell has a hinged design that peels back. Also the rubber functions as a bumper and not a whole skin. It may not offer maximum shock/drop protection, but the case is in turn slimmer, seems a better fit, and more stylish.
The case features good grip points all around and also offers covered port/control covers. The ToughShell also comes with a static screen protector that can be applied by the customer. Lastly there is a belt clip shell that adds additional protection and can double as a table stand.
The ToughShell is available in black and lists for $49.95.
