You can Improve your WIFI and speed up your internal network for just £!5 And you don't need a rocket science degree to do it!
Adding a GIGABIT switch to your network takes some of the load from your main modem or router. This will add extra wired ports to your setup and allow the modem to concentrate on the other tasks it needs to do such as WIFI and IP address allocation.
Most broadband suppliers try and save money by providing a router that is built very cheaply, but is not the most reliable.
Spending a few extra pounds on your family's or business network pays dividends in the long run. In my house, I typically have to reboot the modem at least once every day or two, and quite often get notifications that my HIVE or Xiaomi cameras are no longer connected.
Now with my Netgear GS208 switch added (so far) I have had a VERY reliable and stable experience. Well worth the £15 I paid for it.
I appreciate this isn't the answer to some people's problems, but why not take a chance? It isn't the most expensive of devices, and could save you a lot of time, effort and money trying to fault find or swap out parts and cables only to find it is just the fact your modem is rubbish!
Streamers and video fans. You NEED a fast network to transfer or stream your films and footage around the network. Try streaming a high bitrate 1080p film over a 10/100 network. It's not nice, choppy framerates and buffering. Horrible!
Using an Android or KODI box? Connect it up to wired Gbit cable and enjoy a much better experience. The last thing you need on "movie night" is bad framerates and apologising to your friends and family while you reboot the WIFI box again!
Hopefully this video will give you some ideas to improve your network, and don't forget the slowest part of your network will effect the rest of it. So do the right thing and upgrade it!
