Spelunky 2 - 5 Tutorial% WRs in a Day (+Sub-16!)
15Yesterday (at the time of writing) was the day of the first-ever sub-17 Tutorial% run completed by TBPengy utilizing Cosine's TAS route. This was done nearly 3 years after the first sub-18. You'd think that cracking the next second barrier would either be humanly impossible or take several more years, right?
I had been working on developing a ropeless Tutorial% strat for a while now. I eventually found one that technically worked but ended up being incredibly precise to pull off and probably not even faster than Cosine's TAS route. I was ready to give up on ropeless Tutorial% until the strat literally came to me in a dream. I realized that to complete the Tutorial, you just needed to be on the same y-level as the person timing the Tutorial. This meant that if you could find a way to bomb the ceiling and reach that y-level, you would never have to go the long way around. I do this by using 1 bomb to get back up to the first push block area and then 2 more bombs to bomb a hole in the ceiling to reach the y-level of completion.
Currently, I'm still optimizing the route to find any timesaves I can. With luck, there may be a sub-15 Tutorial% in our future :)
