Spider Man No Way Home Green Goblin FIRST LOOK Breakdown + Sinister Six Variants CONFIRMED
Spider Man No Way Home just had a huge Green Goblin leak in the form of a first look at Willem DaFoe’s stunt double wearing the suit for the film. I’m gonna talk about the suit, and then what this first look means for why the sinister six are all not who we think they are!
So, take a good long look at this Green Goblin suit, you gotta know that this means the movie is going comic accurate Green Goblin, I mean Goblin even has his satchel from the comics! Now, I can almost guarantee that we can expect the purple scarf which would fully complete the look - I mean look at some parts of the suit already, it has purple aspects on it - and similar to capes, the scarf will likely be CGIed on top of Green Goblin and the reason they do that is because capes are really hard to control during filming, so to CGI the cape just makes it easier to film.
And carrying on that theme of comic accurate suits, it seems like we can now assume that these villains will officially be variants of the ones we saw in their respective movies. I mean, think about it, the goblin we know is dead and never developed a suit like that, meaning he comes from another earth in the multiverse separate from the tobey maguire spiderman universe - similarly, you can see that Electro isn’t the blue one that we know from Andrew Garfield Spiderman’s universe, no he is his comic accurate yellow Electro meaning he is from an alternate earth where he did not experience the events of Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider man 2 - even doc ock himself you can see has more of a red tinge to his octopus arms, so while everyone is thinking that this is the one from spider man 2 who was redeemed by the end of the film, you’re wrong, he’s a variant from another earth entirely - heck I saw someone talking about how those octopus arms could be made from the stark tech of the iron spider suit from whatever universe this doc ock is from, meaning this doc ock could’ve killed spiderman before
Now, what does this variant thing mean? Well, it means that our spider man is the main continuity spider man but andrew garfield and Tobey Maguire are both variants of our Peter, so we literally have variants all over the place in this movie colliding
Just looping back to the Green Goblin costume, we can see that it looks more like battle armour than what the original goblin costume was, so my thoughts are that this green goblin variant comes from a war torn earth where battle armour is required to face the heroes and threats of that universe, where upgrades are necessary for survival, so we could be seeing an insanely skilled Goblin for upcoming spider man installment
But, since the Lizard and Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman are now officially confirmed for the film by the empire magazine spider man cover, that only means now that both characters won’t be the same characters from their universe, I’m hoping the lizard diverts from the humanoid lizard look and adapts the more lizard, snout filled with teeth type of character that he was in the comics
The only character that is a mystery to me is Sandman, I mean if Thomas Haden Church is coming back, well that will have to be a variant if they are doing a sinister six movie so that the guy can be sinister and not his redeemed self from Spider Man 3 - but how do you adapt his comic book look if the one from spider man 3 is shirt to pants adapted from the comics? Maybe they will give him a more goblin war torn look, but that will be interesting to see how that plays out
