The Story of the Game:

Marvel's Spider-Man is an action-adventure game released in 2018 by Sony Interactive Entertainment and developed by Insomniac Games. It is based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and presents a unique story influenced by the long-running comic book mythos, as well as other adaptations in other media. In the primary narrative, the super-human crime lord Mister Negative plots to take over New York City's criminal underworld. When Mister Negative threatens to unleash a lethal virus, Spider-Man must fight him while still dealing with the personal troubles of his civilian ego, Peter Parker.

Gameplay is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Spider-Man's traversal and combat abilities. Spider-Man can freely move around New York City, interacting with characters, undertaking missions, and unlocking new gadgets and suits by progressing through the main story or completing tasks. Outside the story, the player is able to complete side missions to unlock additional content and collectible items. Combat focuses on chaining attacks together and using the environment and webs to incapacitate numerous foes while avoiding damage.

The game is played in third person, with an emphasis on Spider-Man's navigation and combat abilities. By continuing through the main plot or accomplishing tasks, Spider-Man may freely wander throughout New York City, interacting with individuals, performing missions, and unlocking new gadgets and outfits. Outside of the main quest, the player may perform side missions to get access to more content and collectibles. Combat relies on chaining assaults and exploiting the environment and webs to incapacitate many enemies while avoiding injury.

The development of Marvel's Spider-Man, Insomniac's first licenced game in its then-22-year existence, began in 2014 and lasted around four years. Insomniac was given the option to working on any character from Marvel's catalogue; Spider-Man was picked for his employee appeal as well as the parallels in traversal gameplay to their previous game Sunset Overdrive (2014). The game's concept was inspired by Spider-Man's history in all media, but Marvel Comics and Insomniac sought to create an original tale unrelated to an existing IP, thereby establishing a distinct world (known as Earth-1048) that has subsequently featured in books, products, and comics.

On September 7, 2018, Marvel's Spider-Man was published on the PlayStation 4 video game system. Marvel's Spider-Man was rated one of the finest superhero games ever developed, among other awards. It quickly became one of the year's best-selling games and one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 titles of all time. Insomniac provided considerable post-launch support for the game, providing a three-part story extension dubbed The City That Never Sleeps as well as various additional alternate outfits for Spider-Man. In November 2020, a remastered version of Marvel's Spider-Man including all previously available downloadable content was published on the PlayStation 5 and for the Xbox One. Microsoft Windows will be available in August 2022. The popularity of the game spawned a video game series with the same name, debuting in November 2020 with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a spin-off based on Spider-Man's buddy Miles Morales. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to hit theatres in 2023.
