The Dungeon Year is more than a challenge—it's a daily creative practice, mental exercise, game, and moment of meditation. You can begin your Dungeon Year anytime, work at your own pace, and finish when ready.
Inspired by Sean McCoy, creator of the Mothership RPG and the #dungeon23 initiative, the idea is simple: build something grand one piece at a time. McCoy’s challenge was to design a mega-dungeon with 365 rooms—one for each day of the year, across 12 levels.
The Dungeon Year expands on this concept, inviting you to create anything you can imagine: 365 rooms, characters, cultures, maps, gods, items, or even an entire world. By the end, you might have a sprawling mega-dungeon, an interstellar spaceship, a vibrant city, or something entirely your own.
In this series, I'll document my journey as I take on this challenge by creating The Spillways of Mega-City One—a toxic, dystopian world inspired by Judge Dredd. Join me as I piece together this dark and thrilling setting, one day at a time.
