Spinal Tap 2 Interview I Director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner)
With The Paper recently debuting on Peacock, discourse has returned to just how genius The Office is. Whether it's the UK or US versions, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's mockumentary started a huge trend in the genre on the small screen. However, Gervais and Merchant's debut to the world owes a massive debt of gratitude and inspiration to another debut, this time a big-screen directorial one for an all-time great behind the camera.
When Rob Reiner brought This Is Spinal Tap to theaters in 1984, it didn't take long for people to realize they had witnessed genius. In a career that would go on to include the likes of Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and more, Spinal Tap is arguably still his crowning achievement. Now, 41 years later and at a time when legacy sequels have never been more popular, the band is quite literally back together with Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, with Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer returning.
Ahead of the movie's arrival, Collider's Steve Weintraub had the opportunity to speak with documentarian Martin "Marty" Di Bergi to discuss all things Spinal Tap II. From fighting between the band and Marty following the first movie to Paul McCartney and Elton John's appearance in the sequel, no stone — not even an 18-foot stonehenge — is left unturned. Check out the full interview in the video above, with a time index of the conversation available below.

6:30: Were there any storylines that were cut from Spinal Tap II? — "You want to keep the things that you love."
