The system comes based on Debian 12; It is available with Cinnamon 5.6.8, XFCE 4.18, Gnome 43.6, KDE Plasma 5.27, Mate 1.26, Budgie 10.7.1, and LXQt 1.2.0 desktop environments.SpiralLinux, a distribution built from Debian GNU/Linux and focused on simplicity and out-of-the-box usability across all major desktop environments; It uses the official Debian package repositories and serves as an alternative live installation method for a highly reliable, customized Debian system. All versions of SpiralLinux for this release are said to now use Pipewire with a suitable configuration out-of-the-box for low-latency (5.3ms by default) JACK-compatible live audio applications even on standard consumer hardware. When asked why another Debian-based distribution, the answer is; Debian does an excellent job of providing the foundations for a highly reliable and flexible operating system, but it is a sprawling and impersonal organization that does not focus on being end-user friendly. It is stated that the project emerged with the aim of filling this gap.
