It's that time again! As the "world" starts drawing to a close, we've reached another opportunity to blow the lid wide off this "secret war" of ours. I mean, there are TONS of Inklings in Inkopolis who shoot at each other just for fun, so you'd think proof positive that their talents could be put to good use would make the Squidbeak Splatoon's numbers balloon out of control... at least to the point of having an actual, numerically-accurate platoon.

...but then how would Agent 3 get and hoard all that self-satisfaction and pack it into a single-player campaign? Yeah, better keep your head down and your voice low, or else you'll blow everything!

14. Octoling Assault
~ Skrimish at the Skatepark ~

So yeah, this is clearly during the daytime, and I have even less excuse for how this doesn't make the news or attract any attention... unwanted or otherwise.

Unfortunately for our invaders, this is a bit of Turf to stake the War on that any Inkling worth his or her salt will be incredibly familiar with, even if there are some unusually-configured barriers around to get in the way.

I'm guessing the Octarians don't have the luxury of a skate park, because the Octolings are NOT very accustomed to the quarterpipes and the misleading "you can walk on this" suddenly reaching a point where "you can no longer walk on this" nature of the gentle incline makes them unusually incapable of evasive action when otherwise scared away by a Splat Bomb.

Then again, maybe it's not fair to judge... because new players will also have just this kind of difficulty in reading the lay of the land and just when to stop walking and jumping versus when to start inking and swimming... but you'd think a difference-engine-governed rudimentary artificial intelligence assigned to dictate Octoling behavior could manage to let them traverse the area a little more effectively than normal. (Then again, consider just how complex the movement patterns required just to get around in a place like this... and that's totally not basic, and a lot of it relies a lot on natural human-level intuition.)

Anyway, the area's just as compact as ever, but you'll find tons of Octolings taking up positions throughout, so there will be a lot of fighting to get through before the day is won. In fact, the more than slightly nonlinear nature of the landscape will make it possible to proximity "activate" an Octoling you wouldn't have expected, and then you'll have to figure out where she's lurking, lest she get the drop on you rounding a corner too cavalierly. (Of course, this is basically the last thing you can expect me to have done back when this was recorded.)

Other than that, there's really not anything tricky they can pull in a multiplayer-based arena such as this... though they did try with the Sunken Scroll location with basically the LAST place you'll ever go in a normal battle. Heck, a lot of players will outright forget about the raised side path leading away from their OWN Spawn Point, let alone the one with its only access so near to where their opponents' would be.

Incidentally, I had no idea taking the Sunken Scroll there cued an Octoling to jump into the area... and I never noticed until watching this again in order to write the description. (I could've had MORE carnage! What have I done?!)
