Insane gameplay from the underrated last gen console game Split Second, also known as Split Second: Velocity overseas. I have had my eye on this game ever since I played the crap out of the demo on my 360 4 years ago. I don't know why I never picked it up because this game is awesome. Causing mayhem throughout the track by blowing up gas tankers, sending a ship into other drivers, barely avoiding a plane crash and changing the layout of the track by crashing a cruise ship into a harbor is way too much fun. There isn't much of a HUD so you won't have anything obstruct your view of the destruction. The handling is great and each car class excels in certain areas. Trucks are the strongest, supercars are the fastest and muscle cars can pull off insane drifts.

Now this game isn't perfect either especially on Steam. There is no multiplayer since the company went bankrupt couple years ago. There are 12 tracks but only 5 environments to race in which can get a bit annoying since you are racing in the same area over and over again. They do a decent job of mixing it up for the tracks in the same environment but they could have done so much more. SecuROM comes with the game which is a DRM but I haven't had any issues with it so far. There are 4 packs of DLC but they are not available for PC. Main problems with the game are the AI rubberbanding and the 30 fps lock. Its annoying when I have plenty of power to run the game at 60 fps but Its not gamebreaking.

I was hoping for a sequel to this game but the company had mass layoffs 3 years ago. I still have some hope since its pretty odd that the game pops up on Steam last week out of nowhere, it was initially released over 4 years ago.

The game is $20 which is pretty high for a game that was released over 4 years ago. If the price turns you off then I would wait for a sale.
