Everybody knows that SpongeBob really cares for Squidward, but that doesn't mean he can't cast some major shade on the guy. I think that as the show has progressed, and as I've gotten older, I've changed positions on who I empathize more with. SpongeBob was so pure and nice that as a kid first watching, he was clearly in the right and Squidward was a fuddy duddy. As an adult, especially with how extreme situations have gotten, Squidward is right to be so fed up with his crazy neighbor. I think it's something that could only happen in a show though, as I don't think a neighbor could be so friendly yet still aggravate someone so much. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that'd be hard to do.
