Spooktober '23 | Ecstatica (PC) - Playthrough
It's Halloween (when this video was recorded) and this is the grand finale of Spooktober 2023. In 1992, Alone in the Dark came out for computers, changing the entire landscape for both 3D games and horror games. 2 years after we have Ecstatica from Andrew Spencer Studios and Psygnosis. This game is wild. From getting jumped by a werewolf and hung upside down to be it's punching bag, to finding a witches broom to float about, Ecstatica's world is bizarre.
Tank controls and static cameras are here, but gone is inventory which is replaced by using both hands to grab and use items. Instead of being trapped in some mansion, Ecstatica takes place in a little village that has been ravaged by all sorts of demons and monsters. Ecstatica's world would be pretty gruesome if it wasn't so 90s colorful. On top of that, characters in the world are rendered with 2d ellipsoids which gives the game a very blomby look. Ecstatica is a wild ride and I highly recommend it.
