This video is a complete description of how a first timer successfully installed a 350' long, 7 zone sprinkler system using only parts from Home Depot. I used 1" schedule 40 PVC for the piping, and the following parts below.

Rain bird 9 zone simple set controller $85

Rainbird 32SA rotor sprinkler $10 apiece * 20 count = $203

Southwire18-10 UL SPRINKLER WIRE BURIAL 1FT, 350 ft $423

Waterproof wire connects $15 for 20 pack

Valve boxes x8 @ $20 = $160

1" PVC, 20' sticks $10.65 apiece, 30 for $319.

Orbit 1" inline valve jartop $14 apiece * 8 = $112

Husky 2" ratcheting PVC cutter $26

PTFE tape

Orbit 1/2" 18" flexc riser, 20 * $4.30 = $85

PVC primer and cement $15 apiece

Maybe $200 in miscellaneous 1" fittings like T's, Ells, size up and size down pieces

TOTAL Cost = $1,663

Total work time = 50-60 hours.
