Kind of shocked that I managed to get 25% of the way through the game in my first stream. Only noticed that at the start of this stream. While that's a good sign for my original plan of completing the game in four streams, I have my doubts that my progress will remain quite that steady.
So, after finally finding the sixth (...and ironically, second) stage in the first hub world, I was able to make it to the first boss. And KI was definitely right: the boss fights are significantly more fun in this game. There's actually some strategy involved in this fight, not just "run up to the enemy and hit him" or "chase the enemy endlessly until you can get a hit on him". As a person who thinks boss fights in general get too much of a bad wrap, it was a breath of fresh air.
Another big shock is how much easier the second flying level was compared to the first. Even the secret challenge was way less of a pain. I can't tell if that was because I got better after "practicing" for so long on the first one... or if it's because it had a much more open design. Either way, I did a little digging after the fact... and it looks like there are only two more to go. Here's hoping they're more like this one... and less like Ocean Speedway.
Honestly, with all the things KI has told me about the third game, I'm kind of worried that Ripto's Rage might be where the series peaks for me. It is pretty hilarious to see Dari complain about how boring these games are though. Granted, I was right there with him when it came to the first Spyro. But the second game is definitely showing me why the series became so very much beloved.
Most importantly, it makes me want the Reignited Trilogy more. If they apply the fixes from this game to the first, it would be a far more bearable experience.
